Lindsay Smith - Music Staff

I’ve been playing percussion for 12-13 years. When I was in high school, I marched snare my freshman year, bass my sophomore year, center marimba my junior year, and bass again for my senior year. During high school, I was active in Troopercussion in the 2015-2016 season on center marimba. I also competed in state solo in my first 3 years of high school, placing in 3rd as a freshman, 2nd as a sophomore, and 1st as a junior. All 4 years I did Gem State Honor Band. I also did All State for 3 years and All Northwest for one year. I was in the Idaho Falls Youth Symphony for 5 years and in my senior year I won the IFYS concerto competition and got to play part of a marimba concerto in my final concert with them.

Every summer from 7th-11th grade I participated in the Boise State Chamber Music Camp. Over that 4 year period, I was recognized for my hard work and love for music. In my final year I was rewarded with mallets that the director had hand wrapped himself because he appreciated my dedication and desire to be better.

My senior year of high school, I auditioned for several music programs. I chose Central Washington University and went there from 2018-2020. While there, I participated in marching band on bass, percussion ensemble, chamber ensembles, solo work, and symphonic band.

During the pandemic, I realized how difficult it was to be so far away from my family and friends. In early 2021, I transferred to ISU. After getting the chance to teach I found that I loved it. Now, I’m majoring in music education.

While at ISU, I’ve auditioned for and participated in the Idaho State Civic Symphony for 3 years and done various ensembles at ISU.

I’ve worked with the Hillcrest Percussion Ensemble for over a year now, and I’ve been working with the High Desert Marching Band this season.
